In 1927 O. C. Lumsden, Sr. and his wife, John Etta, donated one acre of their farmland to the local school district as the location for a new  schoolhouse for the area children.  The Bayou Meto School was soon built.  Over the next thirty years hundreds of students learned about math, about English, about sharing and playing well with others, and about crossing their t's and dotting their i's.

When the schools were consolidated in the late 1950's, theClick here to see pictures from the "good 'ol days!" property reverted back to the family who donated the land, our family.  Today we offer it back to the community as a place to come together with your friends and your family.   Many former students have already enjoyed reminiscing about their childhood as they stroll through the building, visit our Former Students & Teachers page to see a few of the pictures we have collected.  We are researching the history of The Bayou Meto School and requesting memories and photographs to be included in a book to be published soon.  If you have stories to share, please contact us!

We hope many people will visit The Schoolhouse Lodge and enjoy a journey back in time.  Bring your family to see where rural children went to school, where they made friends, and where they learned (and hopefully have never forgotten) the Golden Rule!

The Schoolhouse Lodge offers a unique experience combining history and modern comfort.  Whether your needs are for a quiet retreat with family or friends, a reception or party with catered refreshments, or a hunting getaway, we can accommodate your needs.

Contact us with your requests.  We'll be happy to help you plan your visit!
